Electricity is the backbone for a growing economy in a country such as India. Living standards of the society are rising in cities, in towns in districts and even in villages. Every now and then numerous electrical and electronic gadgets are being pushed by manufacturers from the domestic market as well as from China. All this is resulting in more and more consumption of electricity.

Already we are facing tremendous shortage of electricity. With more industries diverting towards Captive power. These are a lot more are responsible for global warming and green-gas effect, which ultimately is resulting in warmer climate. The warmer the climate gets, the usage of air conditioners too increases. The more we use air conditioners, Global Warming increases simultaneously.

Though 1000 power stations each of 400 Megawatt, are working in whole world, still there is lots of power shortage. These power stations are producing 2 billions tons of Carbon Dioxide. More than 50% of electricity is produced by burning of coal. To generate 1000 watts of electricity, it releases 967 grams of Carbon Dioxide and 34 grams of Nitrogen Oxide. Day to day Green Gas Effect is increasing, which makes environment unbalanced and results in rise of sea level, storms, hurricanes, etc. It is very essential now to think about production, shortage and use of Electricity. 

Major companies are today eyeing for ways to lower the energy intensity at their respective units. A year ago, perhaps, one would have linked this over-drive to cost-cutting measures which companies had undertaken. Even today, cost reduction ranks high on every management’s agenda, but the reasons to achieve higher energy efficiency have changed.
